6 Goals for the New Year (A Little Late)

Better late than never, right?

Making goals is an important part of growth, and I’ve decided to share my list. Maybe it’ll spark some inspiration for you, but let’s be honest, it’s an attempt at holding myself more accountable.

  1. Spend more time outside

As much as I love a good Netflix binge, I often find myself feeling cooped up in the house and like I could have been more productive with my time. As the seasons change and warm weather rolls around, I want to take advantage and spend more time outside whether that’s going on a hike with Fur Fam or simply reading on our front porch.

  2. Read as many books as I can

I absolutely love diving into a new book and getting lost in the storyline. That being said, I’m lazy and actually picking up a book instead of the TV remote is a challenge (I think we can all relate). I have a small book shelf filled with unread titles that I hope to get to in 2020. In an ideal world I would be one of those people who could wake up early, enjoy a morning cup of coffee, and read a few chapters before work. Another new goal? Maybe.

  3. Spend less time on my phone

I think my entire generation should have this goal going into 2020—and also my dad (he suffers from Facebook addiction). I’ll be the first to admit I basically live on social media. I love keeping up with friends, family, and influencers, but am well aware that life is passing me by while my eyes are fixated on a 5-inch screen. I’m challenging myself to enjoy everyday things without taking out my phone to scroll though Instagram. That can wait until I’m bored at home waiting for dinner to be ready.

  4. Save enough money to finish the basement

For those who don’t know, I bought a house last year that doesn’t have a finished basement. In fact, I found out the hard way that I have a leaky basement (not ideal I know) and at no surprise, it’s going to cost quite a bit to waterproof the space. Instead of allowing the basement to be a permanent storage room, I’d like it to become a place where Nick can finally have his man cave and decorate it with all his knickknacks and colorful art.

  5. Take mini vacations

With the stress of wedding prep in full swing and planning our honeymoon, I know it seems crazy to be thinking about future vacations. But I’m not talking about extravagant tropical getaways; I’m thinking something smaller like a camping trip in the mountains of Colorado, a long weekend in Los Angeles to see my best friend, or staying in a cute lodge in Tennessee. I want to see new things, explore new places, and try new food. I’ve always loved traveling and I have a habit of allowing life to get in the way of making it happen.

  6. Enjoy our wedding and honeymoon

Speaking of the wedding and honeymoon, it’s not all stress over here I promise. We are both very excited to say “I do” and are even more excited to start married life on the tropical island of St. Lucia. My goal is to be present and enjoy every moment of this journey because these are memories we are going to cherish for the rest of our lives and hopefully tell our kids and grandkids one day. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures (and maybe even steal my dad’s GoPro) so I can share our wonderful experiences with you.

Of course I would love to be able to come back to this post in a year and say I achieved everything, but if I don’t that’s okay too. I always try my best to achieve my goals, but rather than getting down on myself if I don’t hit every mark, I make those specific goals a higher priority for next year.

Positive vibes always,

M + M
